ENG Version: Incident No. 14/26 during Auditions for the Role of the Chochoł
Yesterday, backstage, during the auditions for the role of the Chochoł (Straw-Man), a fire-and-symbolic incident took place.
The sole candidate for the role unexpectedly caught a spark of enthusiasm—and literally caught fire—while presenting his audition text.
According to eyewitness accounts, it was initially mistaken for an exceptionally successful interpretation of the character. The candidate recited with increasing intensity and visible artistic commitment, right up until the moment the first flame appeared on the left side of his straw head. The committee did not interrupt the performance, deeming it a bold theatrical device.
Fortunately, keeping a cool head, the Chochoł himself realized the situation had gotten out of hand. At the last possible moment, he rushed into the wings, where he emptied all three available fire extinguishers.
Luckily, he sustained no major injuries.
The damages include:
- Fragments of the straw head (the frontal-metaphorical zone),
- Total incineration of two sticks simulating the fingers of the left hand,
- A partial loss of the crew's faith in Health and Safety (BHP) procedures.
The victim was given immediate assistance and transferred to the Prop Master's Workshop, where he will undergo surgery today to reconstruct the burnt pieces. According to the "doctors," the prognosis is good—there is a high chance that after rehabilitation, he will regain full mobility of his hand and most of his symbolic meanings.
A Question of Human Resources
However, a personnel question arises: Can you hire someone with a flash in the pan (a straw enthusiasm)?
Stage Manager K., who was absent at the time of the incident but is formally responsible for everything that happens on stage—and most things that cannot be explained—initially refused to answer his phone.
After roughly the hundredth attempt, he picked up the receiver and replied in a female voice:
"He needs to be soaked in water before the show."
Whereupon he hung up.
Alternative Solutions Under Consideration
The problem remains unresolved. The theater no longer has the funds to purchase new fire extinguishers, not to mention building a mobile technical tub for the preliminary soaking of the Chochoł.
The following alternative solutions are currently being considered:
- Casting exclusively non-flammable characters,
- Shortening the play to the first act,
- Replacing the straw with official bureaucratic paper,
- Banning the expression of enthusiasm on stage.
The entire ensemble is hoping, however, that the Director-Stage Manager will find a solution, as he always does.
Though the hardest question remains: Can a straw enthusiasm ever be cured? Or do we simply need to learn to act faster, before it burns out?
Wczoraj, na tyłach sceny, podczas przesłuchań do roli Chochoła, doszło do zdarzenia o charakterze ogniowo-symbolicznym.
Jedyny kandydat do roli, podczas prezentacji tekstu konkursowego, niespodziewanie dostał zapału.
Według relacji świadków początkowo uznano to za wyjątkowo udaną interpretację postaci. Kandydat recytował coraz intensywniej, z widocznym zaangażowaniem artystycznym, aż do momentu, gdy z lewej strony słomianej głowy pojawił się pierwszy płomień.
Poszkodowanemu udzielono natychmiastowej pomocy i przeniesiono go do Pracowni Butafora, gdzie dziś przejdzie operację rekonstrukcji spalonych fragmentów.
Powstaje jednak pytanie natury kadrowej:
— Trzeba go moczyć w wodzie przed przedstawieniem.
— skrócenie spektaklu do pierwszego aktu,
